Heart Rate
How high should my heart rate go when I exercise?

I am a 28 year old woman. I weigh 129 pounds and I'm 5 foot 5 inches tall. I go on the elliptical for 30 minutes and the treadmill for 15 minutes every other day. Sometimes my heart rate gets up to 175. Is that okay?

Hi,

Your maximum heart rate can be worked out by the formula 220 -age. So your HRmax would be 192, however this is a rough estimate and you could go above this.

So yes 175 bpm is ok, it suggests that your working hard however be careful about maintaining a high HR if your fairly new to exercise or have any form of medical condition.
