Where can I find fake weight plates?
I'm looking for realistic looking fake/prop weight plates to use in a LOW budget student film. Anybody know where to find them, or materials to make them? Seems like styrofoam would be ideal, but hollow plastic plates without the concrete inside might work, too.... the cheaper the better!
I would copy the Cast Iron style of plate in a couple of different sizes if making a prop since they look more impressive. Glue together several layers of cardboard cut into the appropriate sized discs. Add a few extra layers as rings at the outer edge and the hub on the plates that will show. Actually only the two outside layers need to be conplete disks. The rest of each plate can be hollow. Tape the edges with masking tape and paint everything flat black. Stencil your prop plates with white or gold lettering. Large pieces of cardboard can be had for free from appliance dealers and warehouse club stores such as Costco.
