Autism Network!!! MUSIC THERAPY?
I'd like to give to my son music therapy. Another Autism mom told me she bought her son's equipment through Vital Sign online, but I haven't found it. Where can I buy the headphone & CDs??? I don't really have money to pay a Music Therapist for it, since it'd be much more expensive. Where can I get this stuff??? My son's school OT told me she'd teach me to use the technique if I buy the CDs & headphone. She's also searching where to find them but not successfully so far.
You can buy CD's and headphones from Vital Sounds, but your OT will have to prescribe how to use the CD's. This is not music therapy, but a technique used by trained OT's called SOMONAS. It has benefits including behavior regulation and focus direction, among many others. Music therapy has greatly benefited my now 16 year old son. He's been involved with music therapy since the age of 5. He plays piano and guitar, using his musical ability to break into social situations, relieve stress, and just have fun. School districts may pay for this "related service", so does Regional Center (if you live in California).
