Does anyone use a treadmill without wearing the Safety Key?
The key I have is magentic and I've used my new treadmill 3 times so far. 2 out of the 3 times I've used it, I've accidentally knocked off the magnetic safety key and lost my workout in the middle of a preprogrammed setup. FRUSTRATING... so I just wanted to know if it was necessary to use the safety key, or not.
I did for a while because I really couldn't see the point of using it. When I needed off, I just hit the "Stop" button or I jumped on the side rails. But what happened to me was that as my workout went on, I was actually getting closer and closer to the end of the treadmill and one day my back foot rolled off the belt and I ended up twisting my ankle and the be scraped off a bunch of skin off of my shin. If I had been wearing the safety key the treadmill would have turned off once I got so close to the edge. I watch tv or listen to music when I walk, so I was in my own world and didn't notice that I was dropping further back the belt.
It seems silly, but you should wear it because you never know. Is it that you don't have the key? If you don't you can contact the manufacturer and buy one or you can probably make one. I'll never walk without it again.
